Gung Ho! Recordings 50th Release!

Greg Churchill

ASIDE FROM U

REMIXES FROM TOM EQ, CIRCUIT AND DANIEL FARLEY & TOM CORIN

RELEASED OCT 18TH 2010

GUNG HO 50TH SINGLE RELEASE!!!

This is Gung Ho! 50th EP release and the only man for the job is Greg Churchill who has been a talisman for us for the past 5 years supporting the label over seas and sending us countless weapons to release! Our hats are off to Greg once again with this epic release!

Greg Churchill never fails to make a banger. Specializing in dance floor destroying tech house since FOREVER! This new single is something a bit different from the kiwi maestro. This one has a special disco hook in amongst Gregs sickening techy flicks that will not fail to get ass’s shacking!

The remix all bring something to the table that suits a variety of sets. Tom EQ fucks with the bassline to giving a bit of a jump and roll flavor. Circuit sounds straight out of paris with a awesome french tech remix. F&C jacks it up and throws in some cowbells... nuff said!

Superstringz - Nine - Top 10 in Beatport Electronica!

After releasing the Frontline Troopers EP 3 weeks ago we have been watching the progress of one of the singles from it as it has climbed the chart.
'Nine' is what we think of as a electronic wounder! it sits next to Massive Attack but with no vocals.... the proof is in the pudding as they say. 'Nine' is No 9 in the electronic chart.

Ou Est La Swimmingpool

Last weekend Music lost one of its own. A vibrant, boundary pushing electronic artist on the cusp of greatness. Lead singer from Ou Est La Swimmingpool, Charles Haddon, sadly died. The details about how or why this happened are a mess of reasons that can be talked about but can't be changed.
One of the last things Ou Est La Swimming Pool worked on was a remix for Gung Ho!'s own Losers. Eddy from Losers is friends with the band as well as being a massive fan so is like everyone else deeply saddened.

We want to give a way this epic remix they did for us. We want to get their music out to as many people as possible and show what a stunning remix they created. I thoughts go out the family and the band.

DISCO OF DOOM - SEX FACE!!!

DISCO OF DOOM

A. Engine

AA. Sex Face

Released Aug 23 2010

Gung-Ho! Recordings

BRODINSKI - Sex Face is fucking amazing!

DJ ZINC – Really like them both!!

HERVÉ – Yeah! Sex Face is my fave.

DROP THE LIME - Yo Sex Face is big!

FAKE BLOOD – I love the track but hate the name!

MIXHELL – Sex Face is the BOMB!!!

ALEX METRIC – Top notch, playing on my show tonight/

ETIENNE DE CRECY - Everywhere I go the people must have the new Disco Of Doom

SUPERBEATZ - A nice and solid EP! My fav is Sex Face!

THE JAPANESE POPSTARS - Real tasty indeed, Engine is insane

MASON - Love it- Both tracks are (disturbingly) mad

PLUMP DJ’S - Plumps are supporting big time

IDJ: Two fine tracks tailor made for big room action – 7/10

Disco of Doom AKA London-based DJ and production duo Tom Real and Ben Medcalf have done it again with this EP. The second release signed to Gung-Ho! is pushing the electro house sound to the limit! Engine is obvious kick in the face to regular and mundane music being put out! Real engine noised arranged to make your body contort and shake in a way that only DoD can do. Sex Face is bigger room stuff than what we expect but shows off their skills in producing bombs!

Already their previous EP’s have drawn enthusiastic support from a mixed bag of DJs such as AutoKratz, Etienne De Crecy, Alex Metric, DJ Zinc, Doorly, Fake Blood, Mason, Rex The Dog through to Pete Tong, Groove Armada, Axwell, The Crystal Method and many more.

On the remix front, the duo have been busy tearing apart artists like Diddy (Interscope), Crookers, (Southern Fried) James Yuill (Moshi Moshi), Kele (Witchita) Silver Columns (Moshi Moshi), David E Sugar (Sunday Best) Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, Etienne De Crecy (Pixadelic), Swen Webber (Taste/d) and many more. Their recent remix of Buckfunk 3000’s classic High Volume (Future Perfect) drew support on UK national radio support on Radio 1 from Toddla T and Annie Nightingale whilst their rework of early 90’s rave classic ‘Close Your Eyes’ by Acen has one support from Kissy Sell Out, Toddla, Fatboy Slim and many more.

Gung Ho! Front Line Troops Vol 1....

Today we release the first of out new series of EP's. Front Line Troops is designed to bring in new talent to the Gung Ho! fold. At Gung Ho! we love all kinds of aural electronica which is why we have never pigeon holed ourselves as a Electro or Tech House house label. We plan on making this series a selection of underground music taking the pick from all sides of house and techno.

This opener has the 3 artist who have the talent to go far in each of there genre's of house!

Welfare For The Digital are 2 DJ/Producers brought together purely by the rave and love of electronic noises in the dark! Ben Francis and Martin Holden have been DJing together since the 90's at various different locations (House parties at Notting Hill Carnival to Loft Raves in New York as well as night clubs across the UK!) There productions are forward thinking party tech house. They are not apposed to editing there own video clips as well... Check Out 'Flight Of The Navigator' by clicking through here and the video for Rat Race Here -

The second artist involved in in Vol 1 is Robert Cashin. Robert is a Welsh DJ/Producer/Promoter extraordinaire! Robert has release on a verity of labels before but has given Gung Ho! this special EP! Roberts love for the deeper side of house shines through on both these records. Reptile has a awesome kick to it that is suited for a set where a secret weapon is required! Reflections is a real groover and is perfect for the warm up.

Third on the bill is Superstringz aka Se Ozmen. These two tracks are both special in their chilled production. 'Some Kind Of Rock' uses a wicked guitar riff for the hook and works a laid back house track around it where as 'Nine' is one for the beach and to be used dureing the sunset set!!!

Pick up the whole EP exclusively on Beatport now or just pick and choose which ever takes your fancy! Click here to get to the EP

LOSERS SIGN TO GUNG HO!!

We announced the signing of Losers the other week and now that the news is public its been reported in the CMU news with some kind words from the band:

LOSERS SIGN TO GUNG-HO!
Losers, aka DJ, producer and radio presenter Eddy Temple-Morris and former Cooper Temple Clause man Tom Bellamy, have become the latest signing to Gung-Ho! Recordings, also home to The Japanese Popstars and Burn The Negative, amongst others. The duo will release their debut album through the label later this year.

Speaking about the signing, Temple-Morris told CMU: "Matt from Gung-Ho! doesn't so much sign bands as enter into an extended love affair with them. To be signed to a label like that is, for me, the dream come true, and to be stablemates with The Japanese Popstars and Burn The Negative is just the icing on the best chocolate cake ever".

Losers' co-manager, Steve Sethlewaite of Hope Management added: "Co-managing the act with Sean Holbrook for the HDM Group, we've been keen to find the appropriate partners for Eddy and Tom's album. The passion Gung-Ho! has shown for the music rather than the guys' related histories was hugely refreshing. Culturally Losers sit well on Gung-Ho! And it's maximised by the fact that everyone involved is ultra keen and excited to be working together".

Losers have various live dates coming up, including appearances at the Latitude and Lovebox festivals. Their first single for the label will be 'Sirenna (Today We See Colour)' on 6 Sep, followed by the album on 13 Sep.

This is the video from Losers the album track 'Flush'. A video for 'Sirenna (Today We See Colour)' is also happening and will be on its way very soon!

Dodge is one half of Deporto and has released on a few different labels before but this EP is Gung Ho! all over. Dodges love of Ibiza closing parties shines through and you can hear the Balearic influences through out the Blanko Slant EP!

The Riato Burns - Radiate - OUT NOW!

The first single for The Rialto Burns is out this week! Having plaudits come from radio, press, online and the video featuring on NME TV we think that this single is putting 1 foot massively forward!

Some nice words from the press were -

Charlie Ivens, The Fly: “With the whiff of a Hooky bassline but brought bang up-to-date with some ear-burrowing Deastro-esque chiming axe work and a niggly killer chorus, Radiate is pretty much as promising as radio-courting guitar pop gets.”

Record of the Day: "...brooding vocals, anthemic chorus, a stirring debut"

Subba-Cultcha: "Melodically potent, with flashes of Doves and Interpol"

Comfort Comes: "Raw... Ian Curtis-veined pitch... disco tilted guitars"

Here's the video for you!

Burn The Negative New Single - Smash & Grab (Out 02/08/2010)

The new Burn the Negative single is a move on from the first album and has come as the band themselves are going through some changes. We said goodbye to Gary Little and hello to Paulo Di Liberto who is now controlling the beats and effects. It was sad to see Gary go but great to have Paulo com on board!

Check out the video for the upcoming release Smash & Grab. You can see the new band face and get a real feel for what the band are putting out there! With its driven gutars, acerbic beat and anthemic chorus it is a perfect summer track which will surely be a favorite with the festival crowd. The single will be out August 2nd!

The new album artwork is being finalised and I'll post up a link to hear the album in full very soon!

Stay on the myspace and facebook for constant updates!!

Whis This Debut EP out now! Plus a mega mix from Whis This!!

Brand new EP out and another debut EP brought to you by Gung Ho! There's a excellent/mental mix at the bottom make sure to check it out!!

"Whis This" is a Milan-based house/electro project born in 2009. The two djs/producers behind the name come from quite different musical backgrounds; Gianluca (LeBatman) is a french-touch/electro producer and dj, while Ale comes from a minimal-tech scene. They both released tracks and remixes on their own before meeting and deciding to put together their own personal backgrounds, tastes and experiences to create the unique sound of Whis This.

This EP perfectly showcases what Whis This are about and what the can do! Throwing in vocals here and there and making electro that is impossible not to dance to. Ass Back is warpy and dubby but still has a lot of funk running through it. The Bad Boy is rolling and energetic and can be thrown in anytime during a set to bring the party up a notch! BangBangBang it’s the dirtiest of the lot but still retains a real groove through out! Dodgems 2 has recently featured on Ministry Of Sounds Addicted to bass compilation!

Petter & The Pix - Never Never (Single) OUT NOW

The first single (Never Never) from the new album (Good As Gold) from Petter & The Pix is out now!

The single is available exclusively on iTunes click here to download

.. .. .. .. .. .. ..

Six-piece Swedish style-hoppers Petter & The Pix will release their new single ‘Never Never’ on 26 April through Gung-Ho Recordings. Taken from their forthcoming new album Good As Gold, the single ‘Never Never’ is a strange, fuzzy pop song, driven by a relentless keyboard riff, gently psychedelic guitars, and Petter’s quietly emotive vocal delivery. ....

Released in the UK on 3 May, Good As Gold is a dazzlingly eclectic record that sees Petter repeatedly roam round, and transgress, various genre boundaries. On top of its folk-pop core, the record also contains splashes of American sun (‘Backyard’), an Afrobeat bounce (‘Stuck in Between’), and the type of hushed beauty The Band of Horses have recently perfected (‘Before I Do’). Despite all its genre-jumping, ‘Good As Gold’ retains a coherency, and its own identity, through Petter’s insatiable ear for melody. He is also a dark lyrical soul, perhaps best demonstrated on the album’s thematic and stylistic centrepiece, ‘Momentarily Lost’ (currently available as a free download). Powered by a relentless beat and Petter’s gently emotive vocals, ‘Lost’ captures the elegiac intensity that bewitched fans of Arcade Fire, and builds beautifully towards its broodingly baroque crescendo. ....

Petter is the brother of Pontus Winnberg, otherwise known as one half of Bloodshy & Avant. Whilst his brother worked with the likes of Britney Spears (notably on ‘Toxic’), Petter moved to Iceland and recruited school friends - alongside members of Múm and Gusgus - to force his own creative vision into life. In 2008, Petter & The Pix quickly and quietly released their debut album, ‘Easily Tricked’, earning US syncs, an XFM session and an iTunes Single of the Week in the process. Members of the band went on to play with the likes of Lykke Li, El Perro Del Mar, Taken By Trees and Miike Snow, before delivering ‘Good As Gold’ – a record that doesn’t so much step out of the shadows as it does race out into the light.....

The record comes coupled with instantly-arresting Native American cover art, courtesy of legendary illustrator Joe Belt (whose few previous artists include James Brown, as seen on the classic 1974 album ‘Hell’). Live shows will be announced nearer the release of ‘Good As Gold’, when the UK will get its chance to make sense of Petter & the Pix.....

THE JAPANESE POPSTARS SIGN TO VIRGIN EMI!!

Yesterday it was officially announced that The Japanese Popstars have signed from Gung Ho! to Virgin Records. We are overjoyed and think this will get the Japstars to the highs that they deserve. We will still be heavily involved with them and manage the boys through these exciting times and beyond. Here's what was said on emimusic.com

The Japanese Popstars are ready to Destroy

A new signing for EMI that we’re very excited about is The Japanese Popstars, a trio from Northern Ireland who have been spent the last 18 months touring the world and winning huge numbers of fans to their sparkling electronic dance music.

Hailed as the rightful heirs to the likes of Underworld, Leftfield, The Chemical Brothers and Orbital, Decky, Gary and Galo’s debut album ‘We Just Are’ attracted huge critical acclaim (eg ‘Literally amazing’, ‘The most exciting new electronic act on the planet’, ‘F**king amazing’) and led to them performing their stunning live sets at Glastonbury, Ultra Festival, Fabric, Rockness, Fuji Rock and Planet Love among many others. This summer’s festivals include Bestival, Creamfields, Parklife, Electric Picnic and Rockness.

New single ‘Destroy’ is released by Virgin Records on May 30. Featuring vocals by Jon Spencer (of the Blues Explosion) the single paves the way for the band’s second album which is due out in the summer.

Burn the Negative - News!!

Its been a bit quiet on the Burn the Negative front. But thats not to say a hell of a lot is going on!
Heres some news on there goings ons written by Mark Baker for his myspace fans..!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

SO, you might be pleased to know, we've finished the writing and arranging of the new album which is currently, as yet, untitled.

We'll be in London in the next month or so, to mix it down, possibly in Dean Street studios in Soho. We also mixed the first album "In The Atmosphere" down there, so we know we're going to get something pretty special.
Next step from there will be a mastering session at the legendary Abbey Road, again, we've been before and loved the place so much.

NEXT UP, Unfortunately, Gary Little, our keyboard programmer and in house engineer, has decided to leave the band, he said it was a difficult decision but felt he wanted to concentrate on some of his own personal projects and decided it would be difficult to do this, whilst concentrating on the LIVE aspects of Burn The Negative.
Gary co-produced the first album with Mark and made writing contributions to singles such as WONDER WHY & LOW, again on the first album and worked with Mark for over 15 years on the Lil' Devious / Percy Filth / The Hinges / Royal Suite projects.
Gary will play his final gig with the band in Nottingham's STEALTH club on the 27th March. We all wish him the very best for the future. x

"BUT...BUT, WHERE DOES THIS LEAVE BURN THE NEGATIVE"??!!!?? We hear you all cry!!!
Well, Well...Last month, we put out a search for a technical wizard / an electronic ALCHEMIST and an all round LIVE Keys and magical boffin.
BUT, We managed to find our next member instead...!! We've been in band rehearsals with him, he's shaping up brilliantly!!! We'll be introducing him VERY soon...

IN THE ATMOSPHERE - REMIXED

Yes! Our first album has been remixed, it'll be released as a strict i-Tunes release. Remixes a plenty from rising stars, Welfare for the Digital, 10RAPID, Enzo Canale, Whis This, Lex Wolf, Leatherhead, Paul Deighton & Tom Madicott... Keep your eyes peeled to see whos shaken up which track.

Thanks for reading!! We'll be back with more news SOON!

Members of the band went on to play with the likes of Lykke Li, El Perro Del Mar, Taken By Trees and Miike Snow, before delivering ‘Good As Gold’ – a record that doesn’t so much step out of the shadows as it does race out into the light.

The record comes coupled with instantly-arresting Native American cover art, courtesy of legendary illustrator Joe Belt (whose few previous artists include James Brown, as seen on the classic 1974 album ‘Hell’). Live shows will be announced nearer the release of ‘Good As Gold’, when the UK will get its chance to make sense of Petter & the Pix.

THE RIALTO BURNS - NEW SIGNING! ! !

Gung Ho! Recordings is extremely proud to have signed The Rialto Burns to the label. Members of the band are from Liverpool and North Wales and make a sound that is genuinely superb. Probably best decide for yourselves what genre they are but to us here is just damn good, beautiful echo'y guitars with lyrics that actually mean something.

The band are made up of Adam Chatterton - Vocals, Alex Baillie - Guitar, Paul Coughlan - Guitar and Paul Potts - Bass. On drums is the drum machine which gives a slight electronic edge to the sound.

The deal was signed this week after Gung Ho! head honcho Matt seeing them play live at Korova in Liverpool. Now all thats left is to get this rolling. keep checking back to this blog for more info.

Greg Churchill - Gung Ho! 40th Release!!

Gung-Ho! Would like to announce that the labels 40th Release is looming and it seems fitting that none other than Greg Churchill should be the person to release the 40th record.
Matt says" We have been working with Greg for years and his output has always been incredible. In fact he is not only a dear label friend but a thoroughly superb producer. We have been trying to get an album out of him for ages but have decided to let him carry on with writing that pressure free while we get his EP's into the release system. You should expect at least 3 double track EPs from Greg in 2010 alongside a flurry of remixes he will be doing.
The first EP and 40th Gung-Ho! Release will be Gregs 'Clown Punch' backed with the utterly insane 'Babblegap'
You know when Greg is on Good form when he writes something as nuts as that."
Promos will be doing the rounds shortly

Paul Deighton - Hear Me Now EP!

Paul Deighton returns to his Gung-Ho! fold with the Here Me Now EP. Always surprising with styles this ep sees Paul go heavy on the electronics with warped vocals. Hear Me Now is a real call to arms whilst 'Electric Life' has a much cleaner electronic stab to it. A great follow up for the label to his seminal Gung-Ho! classic Omega 33. Listen to the promo mix Paul has kindly dropped us. Click here to download.

Petter & The Pix - Good As Gold Press Release

PETTER & THE PIX

ALBUM: ‘Good As Gold’ out 3 May

SINGLE: ‘Good As Gold’ released 26 April

‘Good As Gold’ is the kaleidoscopic second album from six-piece Swedish shape-shifters Petter & The Pix. It will land in the UK on 3 May, via Gung-Ho! Recordings, following the release of the title track on 26 April.

‘Good As Gold’ is a sonically and emotionally layered album, only revealing itself after repeated listens. It was recorded in live takes over just two days, and then assembled over a painstaking twelve month period. As a songwriter, Petter repeatedly roams round various genres, scoping out the boundaries in order to transgress them. ‘In the End of the Day’ sounds like an imaginary sound-off between Mumford & Sons and ‘Smile’-era Brian Wilson. Elsewhere, there are splashes of American sun (‘Backyard’), an Afrobeat bounce (‘Stuck in Between’), and the type of hushed beauty The Band of Horses have recently perfected (‘Before I Do’).

Despite all its genre-hopping, ‘Good As Gold’ retains a coherency, and its own identity, through Petter’s insatiable ear for melody. He is also a dark lyrical soul, perhaps best demonstrated on the album’s thematic and stylistic centrepiece, ‘Momentarily Lost’. Powered by a relentless beat and Petter’s gently emotive vocals, ‘Lost’ captures the elegiac intensity that bewitched fans of Arcade Fire, and builds beautifully towards its broodingly baroque crescendo. The lo-fi ‘Last Time’ closes an album that demands you go right back to the beginning, and start again.

Petter is the brother of Pontus Winnberg, otherwise known as one half of Bloodshy & Avant. Whilst his brother worked with the likes of Britney Spears (notable on ‘Toxic’), Petter moved to Iceland and recruited school friends - alongside members of Múm and Gusgus - to force his own creative vision into life. In 2008, Petter & The Pix quickly and quietly released their debut album, ‘Easily Tricked’, earning US syncs, an XFM session and an iTunes Single of the Week in the process.
